Expenses

Expenses, in general, can include but are not limited to the following:

• - Mileage and other travel costs
• - Rental of camera and lighting equipment
• - Hiring models
• - Cost of securing model and property releases
• - Insurance riders
• - Film processing and digital imaging costs
• - Shipping costs
• - Purchasing or rental of props
• - Printing costs
• - Parking and tolls
• - Electronic storage media
• - Design and construction cost of sets
• - Stylists and wardrobe consultants' fees
• - Photographic assistants - if necessary
• - Other rental costs including vehicles
• - Digital imaging (color correcting, retouching, etc.)
• - Meals and refreshments for crew
• - Costs for scouting a location
• - Long distance phone and facsimile costs

Generally, expenses will be billed to the client at the completion of the assignment, along with the invoice. Sometimes, however, in the case of large estimates, expenses between 25 and 30 percent will be required before the photographing begins. This practice is industry standard.
