Biography

I began my career as a photojournalist in 1988, shooting for the student newspaper Northeastern News at Northeastern University in Boston. While taking time off from college, I worked at the Newport (RI) Daily News as the weekend photographer.

I returned to college in 1991 and completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Parks and Recreation Management from the University of Maine. While a student at UMaine, I worked
for the student newspaper The Maine Campus. During my senior year, I was the photo editor.

My summers were spent working for the National Park Service. During my first summer, in 1992, I was the photography intern at Acadia National Park in Maine. The next two summers were spent at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. I was an Interpretive Ranger conducting guided nature walks. My supplemental duties were to serve as an emergency medical technician and a forest firefighter.

In the fall following my graduation, 1994, I worked part-time as a photo lab technician and photographer for the University of Maine’s Public Affairs Department. During the same time, I worked part-time as a photographer at the Bangor (Maine) Daily News.

In 1997 I accepted a full-time staff photographer position at the Amsterdam

Biography

Recorder in upstate New York. A year later, I returned to New England to become a staff photographer at Foster’s Daily Democrat in Dover, N.H. I accepted this position because it afforded me the opportunity to cover the presidential primaries.

After four years at Foster’s Daily Democrat, I decided that it was time to start my own freelance photography business. So Tim Boyd Photography was started in Dover, N.H. As a freelance photographer, I shoot for a variety of clients, as well as newspapers and the Associated Press, a worldwide news service organization. I am also able to devote more time to work on personal photo projects, and add to my growing stock file.

My work has appeared in many publications, some of which include: Time, Preservation Magazine, MSNBC’s and ABC’s websites, USA Today, The Boston Globe and The Boston Herald, The Miami Herald, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, The Cape Cod Times, and The Portland Press Herald. I have also been published in all of the daily newspapers in New Hampshire, such as The Union Leader, The Concord Monitor, Portsmouth Herald, The Nashua Telegraph, and The Keene Sentinel.

While the above list is not complete, it may give you a sense of the kinds of news sources that have felt that my photographs met or exceeded their standards for publication.
